To create a Telegram poll, open a group where you may send polls or a channel where you have posting rights, then choose Poll from the attachment or chat menu. Enter the question and choices, review vote visibility and publish. A quiz uses the same creation flow but marks the correct answer or answers.
Create and check the first poll
On Android and iPhone, start with the attachment button beside the message field. In Desktop, check the attachment menu or the chat’s additional-actions menu for poll creation. Web layouts can differ. If a control is missing, update the client and check your posting permissions rather than assuming the phone and computer menus must match.
- Write one question that can be answered without extra explanation. For a meeting, include the date and time zone rather than only “Friday”.
- Add distinct answer choices. Use the editor’s current limit; old guides that hard-code every option limit can become outdated.
- Choose whether votes should be anonymous, whether multiple selections are useful and whether this is a quiz.
- Review the deadline, result visibility and revoting options offered by your client.
- Publish, then read the label on the resulting card before inviting people to vote.
The original poll guide documents groups and channels. It does not justify promising that the ordinary Poll composer is available in every one-to-one chat. If that is where you are looking for the button, move the activity to an appropriate group.
Decide whether names should be visible
For confidential feedback, choose anonymous voting before publishing and confirm the card says it is anonymous. This hides the association between voters and choices in the poll interface; it does not prevent people from revealing their own answers elsewhere.
For attendance, a visible-vote group poll can be useful. Other people in the group can see who chose an option, not just its creator or admins. Explain that before collecting responses. Do not promise named voter lists in a channel unless the current composer actually offers the relevant mode.
A multiple-answer poll is useful for “Which days can you attend?” A single-answer poll fits “Which day should we book?” State which decision you will make from the result.
Quiz settings changed in 2026
Turn on quiz mode and mark the correct choices before publishing. Add a short explanation when the editor offers it. For a language lesson, explain the grammatical rule rather than repeating “correct answer: B”.
Telegram’s March 2026 update added quizzes with multiple correct options and optional revoting. It also added media and locations, descriptions, suggested choices, shuffling, deadlines and hiding results until time runs out. Therefore “quizzes always allow one answer and cannot be anonymous” is not a reliable setup rule. Review each setting separately.
For a sequence of questions rather than one card, the official announcement also points to QuizBot. Before using any bot with participants’ information, review bot access and permissions.
Voting, deadlines and results
Select an answer; when multiple selections are enabled, choose the relevant options and use the submit action. Whether you can change a vote depends on the poll’s configuration. A hidden-result poll may not show the tally until its deadline.
Set a closing time when the decision needs a deadline. If your client exposes a manual stop action for a poll you control, read its confirmation before using it. Do not delete the poll as a substitute for closing voting when you need to retain its results.
The group or channel profile has a polls tab for finding current and past polls. The May 2026 update also documents administrator graphs after 100 votes and channel controls restricting participation to subscribers or by country. These restrictions can explain why someone sees a poll but cannot vote.
If creation fails in a group, ask an admin to check poll permissions; in a channel, check your publishing role. Use the channel/group comparison if you are unsure where the discussion belongs. Do not copy votes into a replacement poll and present them as fresh responses.
